The 4.5 release of Microsoft Applicatin Virtualization (SoftGrid) will be a substantial change from the existing 4.1/4.2 software.
Because of this, GridMasterTraining is upgrading our course content and materials. The new course will also cover:
- The new MAV Light-weight or "Streaming" Server
- Overrides with ASR, OSR, ISR
- MSI only deployments
- SCCM Deployments using BITS
- Dynamic Suite Composition (Bubble-to-bubble)
- BackGround Streaming option
- Using ACLs inside the sft
- Scripting to preload the cache
- Expanded coverage in areas customers ask us about, such as HA environments.
While much of the heart of the class - the art of sequencing - may not require
significant changes in practices,
we feel it is important that every customer understand what all of the options
are, including new options, and why they would be used in certain cases.
The 4.5 release also offers major architectural choices that customers need to
understand. While the "traditional" style of SoftGrid deployment remains
an option for many, these new options will offer a compelling alternative to
certain customers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is a "Masters Level" Class?
A:
This is not a "follow along the prepared excercises" kind of class.
We will show you techniques to solve hard problems, but participants will be challenged to put those techniques into practice,
solving application issues that impact their environment.
The feedback on this style of class has been phenominally positive from past participants.
Q: Do I need prior experience?
A:
We expect participants to arrive with some knowlege of SoftGrid.
This might be a pilot test, or existing implementation on an older revision.
Or it might involve some formal training, such as the MDOP class.
But even participants coming in cold are welcome, provided they have the appropriate
background listed in the course pre-requisites.
We will be sure to we cover the basics so as to ensure everyone understands the details and best practices
around application virtualization (and then so much more).
Q: Do I need to take the "MDOP" class first?
A:
No. It is not necessary that participants take the more basic level "MDOP" class prior to taking this class.
The MDOP class (offered by several other training centers) covers SoftGrid plus the several other technologies included in MDOP, in more of a traditional training center style.
Q: Does the class cover use on Terminal Services?
A:
Yes! Since we have worked with the product since before the Microsoft acquisition, the majority of our
customers have been using the Terminal Services Client.
Q: How is the class offered?
A:
The new "Masters Level" class will be available both in public class format, and also on-site private classes from our two licensed partners,
Big Hat Group, Inc and TMurgent Technologies LLP.
Public classes are appropriate if your company needs only a few people trained, and are able and willing to travel to one of our scheduled classes.
One of the big advantages of a public class that we hear about from participlants is the opportunity to work with your peers who face the same problems,
but go about solving them differently due to their experiences and environment.
Private classes are appropriate when a company has (typically) four or more involved with application virtualization,
or when travel or schedule does not permit the public class option.
An on-site private class allows for significant customization of the content to fit your particular needs.
Our partners are typically asked to provide consulting services in addition to the training content.
These needs must be individually negotiated with the partner.
Q: When will the class be offered?
A:
We will not offer the class until September of 2008.
We had planned to start earlier, based upon the Beta version.
When we saw the changes planned for the final release - substantial functional changes from the Beta code -
we felt that it would be wrong to offer a class until we can have sufficient hands-on time with release candidate code this summer.
As always, the latest public schedule is at this link.
Q: Will there be a "refresher" class for former GridMasterTraining participants?
A:
There are no plans for a separate "refresher" class given on a public class basis.
Arrangements for a private class can be arranged through our partners.
Q: Why isn't there a ton of info on this site about SoftGrid?
A:
We let our partners do that through their own sites.
